Northwind Phoenix, LLC (Phoenix, Arizona) has been awarded the engineering and construction services contract for a proposed new central heating plant at the Arizona State University Polytechnic Campus in Mesa, Arizona. Plans are to construct a $12 million central heating plant on the southeast quadrant of campus to provide chilled water services for future growth. Equipment to be installed will include two 1,000-ton centrifugal turbine driven chillers with surface condensers, 3-cell cooling towers plus supporting auxiliary equipment. Construction is anticipated to begin in the late spring of 2007, with overall completion slated for the fall of 2007.

ASU Polytechnic is also proposing a $10 million Phase I infrastructure improvement project that will involve upgrades and modifications to the university’s steam & chilled water distribution systems as well as the electrical distribution systems. Construction is expected to begin in the early summer of 2007, with completion slated for early summer 2008.

Arizona State University (ASU), based in Tempe, Arizona, was established in 1885. It is considered to be a public metropolitan research university with an enrollment of over 61,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students on four campuses. The four campuses include: Tempe Campus in Tempe, Arizona; West Campus in Phoenix, Arizona; Polytechnic Campus in Mesa, Arizona and the Downtown Phoenix Campus. Arizona State University opened its Polytechnic Campus (also called the ASU East Campus until its name change on July 2005) on the former Williams Air Force Base in the fall of 1996. Over 6,500 students are enrolled in 40 degree programs on the existing campus.
