Data center leasing and construction hit record levels in 2019, according to CBRE Group's recent Data Center Trends Report. CBRE saw construction completions amounting to 488.7 megawatts (MW) of power usage in 2019, led by Northern Virginia's 340.2 MW, accounting for 70% of the total. Other markets with significant completions included Phoenix, Arizona; Silicon Valley, California; Chicago, Illinois; and Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas. The group predicted there will be a drop-off for completions in 2020. Industrial Info is currently tracking nearly 100 data center projects in the U.S. valued at $18.82 billion that are scheduled for completion in 2020.
