Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Looking at the distribution of industrial plants in the U.S., the Great Lakes market region has the largest concentration of plants, with more than 6,900 major industrial plants. The Great Lakes region includes the key industrial states of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Four of these states, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin, are ranked in the top ten for industrial plant population. Ohio is the third-largest state in the nation for industrial plant population, behind Texas and California. Ohio has more than 1,600 operational plants. One of the reasons that the Great Lakes region has such a high plant density is its established infrastructure of rail, highway, and water, via the Great Lakes shipping lanes, transportation avenues for shipping raw materials and products to and from the heart of America's automotive, steel, and heavy manufacturing industries.
The second largest region is the Southeast, with nearly 4,500 plants. Third is the Southwest region, with more than 4,300 plants.
Industrialinfo.com categorizes the industrial world into twelve distinct industries. They are; Power, Terminals, Oil & Gas Transmission, Oil & Gas Production, Synthetic Fuels Production, Petroleum Refining, Chemical Processing, Metals & Minerals, Pulp & Paper, Food & Beverage, Industrial Manufacturing, and Pharmaceutical & Biotech. Click here for a detailed description of these industries.
All of these plants can be accessed using Industrialinfo.com's Online Plant Database, which features owner names, plant names, addresses, phone numbers, plant and purchasing manager contact names, product descriptions, and a mapping product that allows users to generate driving directions to the plant.
"The real benefit to users of Industrialinfo.com's Online Plant Directories is the fact that they are continually monitored and updated by our research staff. This affords the user instant access to changes in plant ownership, plant management contacts, addresses, phone numbers, and other key industrial plant features, which cannot be achieved with printed manufacturers directories or plant lists," according to Joseph Govreau, Vice President of Research for Industrialinfo.com.
