Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). One of Quebec's largest privately-held agri-food processing companies, VIAU Foods Incorporated (Montreal-Nord, Quebec, Canada), has begun construction on a new $12 million processing plant, distribution center, and headquarters office in Laval, Quebec.
To meet the growing demand for the company's meat products, VIAU decided to construct a new 90,000 square foot state-of-the-art plant to increase production capacity and support the existing plant, which the company operates in North Montreal. Construction of the building is currently underway, and once completed, processing, cooking, and packaging equipment will be installed to produce pizza toppings, deli-meats, and meatballs. The expanded production will support both regional and South American markets. The site will also act as a new distribution point for the company's products.
Once the project is completed sometime during the Fall of 2005, VIAU plans to hire an additional 25 employees to operate the facility and corporate positions within the organization will also relocate to the new site.
VIAU Foods produces more than 300 varieties of products marketed under the Sila and VAIU brand names. They also produce private label brands for big-box chains like Costco and are the largest independent producer of pepperoni in Canada.
