Colombian major utility Celsia SA ESP is engaged in permitting for construction of the 200-megawatt (MW) El Tesorito natural-gas-fired power plant in northern Colombia. The company has signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with Wartsila OY, which will supply internal combustion engines, and will also be responsible for the construction of the plant. The construction is expected to start during the third quarter of this year and is planned for completion during the third quarter of 2022.
Colombia became a hot spot for solar and wind projects in recent years, but there are more than $1.2 billion of planned investments in the construction of natural-gas-fired newbuild capacity, which are expected to start construction during 2021 and 2022.
