Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Wisconsin Public Service Corporation (WPS), a subsidiary of WPS Resources Corporation (NYSE:WPS ) (Green Bay Wisconsin), has officially started construction of the $752 million base-load 500 megawatt (MW) pulverized coal-fired supercritical Weston 04 electrical power generator at its 345 acre, 50-year-old, Weston Power Station site in Rothschild, Marathon County, Wisconsin. WPS customers are increasing electricity demand by approximately two to three per cent per year. The population is increasing and individual customers are increasing demands. The average use of electricity by residential customers has risen by about 20% in the last ten years.
Earlier this year, Dairyland Power Cooperative (LaCross, Wisconsin) signed a letter of intent for 150 MW (30%) of the power, which they have the option to either purchase from WPS or to take part ownership of the unit.
