Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Wood Group Power Operations, Incorporated (Alpharetta, Georgia), part of the Gas Turbine Services Division of John Wood Group PLC (LSE:WG) (Aberdeen, Scotland), has been awarded four six-year contracts, with a combined value of $55 million, from LS Power Acquisition Company I, LLC (“LS Power”), a member of the LS Power Group (East Brunswick, New Jersey), for the operation and maintenance (O&M) of power generation plants to be acquired by LS Power from Mirant Corporation (NYSE:MIR) (Atlanta, Georgia).

The contracts awarded are for the O&M of the 903-megawatt (MW) Zeeland, Michigan station; the 561 MW Sugar Creek station in West Terre Haute, Indiana; the 546 MW Bosque County station in Laguna Park, Texas, and the 527 MW Apex 1 Generating Station in Las Vegas, Nevada, all consisting of advanced technology General Electric Frame 7FA heavy industrial gas turbines operating in both simple and combined cycle configurations.

LS Power has a fast-track schedule and underwent a highly competitive O&M service provider selection process. Ms. Carolyne Wass, Vice President of Commercial Management at LS Power, said, “We were looking for a company that is able to work seamlessly with LS Power, and WGPO has demonstrated this commitment on four projects they currently operate for LS Power. WGPO has proven its breadth of capabilities and innovative approach to the market, and we look forward to working with them on these important additions to our portfolio.”

Frank Avery, President of WGPO, said, “Our success has been driven by a straight-forward, flexible and open approach to O&M. This approach instills confidence in our ability to effectively and efficiently operate the facilities under our management, and creates a sense of partnership as we strive to understand our customers’ business needs and continually seek opportunities to add value. We are proud to have been given this vote of confidence by LS Power and will continue to nurture and grow this relationship by delivering on our commitments.”

The LS Power contracts together with a recently signed contract with the Greenfield Energy Center have pushed Wood Group Power Operations power plant O&M responsibilities up over the 11,000-megawatt mark.
