Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The first unit of State Grid Corporation of China's (SGCC) (Beijing) Xianyou Pump-Storage Power Station was connected to the grid on December 22, 2012. This is the first pump-storage power station in China to adopt fully localized power generation unit and put it into operation, according to an announcement from the SGCC on December 27.
The Xianyou Pump-Storage Power Station is located in Xiyuan Xiang, in Xianyou County of Putian City, in eastern China's Fujian province. The project has a total installed capacity of 1,200 megawatts (MW), including four Francis reversible pump/hydraulic turbine generating/motor units, each of 300 MW. The project also is the first pump-storage hydropower station to be built in the Fujian province. The total investment in the project is about $700 million. State Grid Xin Yuan Holding Company Limited (Beijing), a subsidiary of the SGCC, is responsible for the development and future operation of the project. HydroChina Huadong Engineering Corporation (Hangzhou, Zhejiang) is responsible for the design and engineering of the project.
Sinohydro Corporation (Beijing), a subsidiary of the Power Construction Corporation of China (Beijing), is serving as the main construction contractor for the project. Sinohydro Engineering Bureau 14 is responsible for the mechanical and electrical equipment installation, as well as the concrete and decoration engineering for the powerhouse system; Sinohydro Engineering Bureau 1 is responsible for the construction of the power diversion system; Sinohydro Engineering Bureau 12 is responsible for the underground powerhouse excavation and some of the works in the tailrace system; and Sinohydro Engineering Bureau 16 is responsible for the construction and operation of the aggregate and concrete production system for the lower reservoir. The construction of the main works for the project kicked off on January 12, 2009.
The commissioning of the project also means that the manufacturing and development technology for China's pump-storage hydropower stations has reached a new level.
