Indonesia Makes Plans for Increased Renewable Energy, an Industrial Info Market Brief

The acting director of PT Perusahan Listrik Negara (PT PLN), Djoko R. Abumanan, said, "The portion of the biggest generation is indeed water and geothermal," when asked about the potential of renewable energy generation in Indonesia. In the 2019-2028 Electric Power Supply Business Plan, an additional 16.67 gigawatts of planned capacity has been allocated for renewable energy generation. Hydropower and geothermal dominate with 48% and 27%, respectively, and the remaining 25% will be from other sources. About 8,000 megawatts (MW) of hydropower and 4,000 MW of geothermal generation are expected to be added in Indonesia in the next eight years.
