Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking more than $3 billion in active projects involving Walbridge Construction Company (Detroit, Michigan). While automotive projects are the company's bread and butter, the company is involved in other projects in the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, including data center construction and an airport expansion.

In the largest project involving Walbridge, the company is working as a joint-venture general contractor with Aristeo Construction Company (Livonia, Michigan). Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV (NYSE:FCAU) (FCA) (Amsterdam, Netherlands) is expanding its Mack Engine Plant complex in Detroit. The project involves construction of a 600,000-square-foot building expansion to the 700,000-square-foot idled Mack Plant II and performing uplifts to the Mack Plant I. The project will enable FCA to manufacture the next generation of Jeep Grand Cherokees, a new three-row Jeep sport utility vehicle and a new hybrid vehicle. Construction began in second-quarter 2019 and is expected to wrap up by fourth-quarter 2020. The project has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $1.6 billion. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
FCA also is in the early planning stage of a retool/modernization project at its Jefferson North assembly plant in Detroit, for which Walbridge and Aristeo are named as a joint-venture general contractor. The project would expand production and testing for the next-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango and a plug-in hybrid vehicle. Construction could begin in 2021. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In July, Lucid Motors USA Incorporated (Meno Park, California) began site preparation on its electric car manufacturing plant in Casa Grande, Arizona. Walbridge is providing general contacting services on the $250 million project, which is the first phase of a planned multi-phase project. The project entails constructing 820,000 square feet of factory space with an initial manufacturing capacity of 20,000 vehicles per year. The project is expected to be completed in late 2020 or early 2021. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Outside of the automotive sector, Walbridge is at work on the expansion of Microsoft Corporation's (NASDAQ:MSFT) (Redmond, Washington) data center in Boydton, Virginia, between Richmond, Virginia, and Raleigh, North Carolina. The project kicked off late last year and includes construction of up to five modular data halls of 49,209 square feet each to provide expanded colocation and cloud computing services. The $300 million project is expected to wrap up in the first quarter of next year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In Sanford, Florida, Walbridge is at work on a terminal expansion at the Orlando Sanford International Airport. Passenger numbers have surged at the airport, which provides an alternative to Orlando's primary airport, and the project will help accommodate these growing numbers by making additions and renovations to terminal buildings and installing a new loading-dock building and a skywalk expansion with four gates. Construction began last summer and is expected to be completed in the first half of next year. CPH Engineers Incorporated (Sanford) is providing architectural and engineering services, and Walbridge is the general contractor. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Walbridge is performing design-build services on WACO Aircraft Corporation's (Battle Creek, Michigan) expansion of its aircraft manufacturing plant in Battle Creek. The project includes constructing an 80,000-square-foot building addition that will house two new service hangars and fabrication space to increase the production capacity of aircrafts, and allow for aircraft maintenance and restoration. The project kicked off this summer and is expected to take about a year to complete. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
