Tropical Cyclone Damien is predicted to be a Category 4 storm when it makes landfall this weekend on Australia's west coast. Based on Industrial Info's Disaster Impact Tracker, at least 21 industrial plants are in the immediate path of this intensifying storm. This storm has grown quickly over the past two days and winds could exceed 140 miles per hour, and rainfall could quickly total six inches over a short period.

Several mining operations have reduced operations to essential personnel in preparation for what could be the worst storm to make landfall in the region in more than five years. Power plants potentially impacted by the storm have 96 megawatts of generation capacity. Operations for a large 207 million-standard-cubic-foot-per-day gas processing plant and an 800,000-metric-ton-per-year ammonia fertilizer plant in the immediate area could be impacted by high winds. Multiple ports were closed on Friday ahead of the storm's landfall, with the expectation of excessive storm surge through Sunday.

Industrial Info's research teams continue to monitor the storm's track and will report on damage and the impact on operations as the storm passes.

Industrial Info's Disaster Impact Tracker follows natural disasters, earthquakes, hurricanes and other weather-related events that are not only having a direct and immediate impact on operational plants, but also those plants or projects that lie in the projected path of the event.
