The COVID-19 pandemic has had a swift and severe impact on Brazil's automotive industry. With temporary plant closings, layoffs and employee suspensions, some companies have decided to delay reopening, while others have started producing again with reduced shifts. For example, BMW announced that it resumed production in Araquari (Sao Paulo State) on May 4 after a month of being closed.

- The Caoa Chery plant at Jacarei (SP) has been suspended since April 1 and has not said when it will resume operations. The Anapolis plant that was suspended on March 23 doesn't have a reopening date yet either.
- General Motors has extended the shutdown of Brazilian plants by 60 days until mid-June.
- Honda Automotive announced that it will extend until June 25 the stoppage of automobile production at its plants in Brazil.
- HPE Mitsibishi / Suzuki: the Catalão (GO) plant has been stopped since March 23 through collective holidays. The measure is valid for 60 days, until May 23.
- Moto Honda da Amazonia has postponed to work in the Manaus motorcycle Factory until May 25.
- Nissan has extended production stoppage at its Resende plant another 30 days until May 21.
- Peugeot Citroen: The resumption of the Porto Real (RJ) complex is scheduled for May 31, a date that can be reassessed. The unit stopped producing on March 232.
- Toyota has postponed the return of production at Brazilian plants until June 22-24.
- Volkswagen has extended production stoppage at its San Carlos plant until June 1. Its other plants should restart operations May 25.
