Mexico's ports mobilized 114.8 million tons during the first five months of 2020, which meant a decrease of 10.9% when compared with the same period in 2019, when 128.9 million tons were registered, according to a report from Mexico's port authority.
Container imports fell 8.6% to 2.6 million TEUs. Bulk agricultural products fared better due to higher food consumption, increasing 8.8% to 7.5 million tons.
Automotive shipments fell 36.2% to 524,967 units, due to weaker sales, unlike the 822,860 units reached during the same period in 2019. Minerals also decreased 12.7% from 30.5 million tons in the same period of 2019.
