Railway company Trenes Argentinos Cargas has agreed to transport about 200 containers of rice from Encarnación in Paraguay to the Port of Zárate in Argentina.
Transportation by ships to the Port of Zárate has become difficult due to declining water levels in the Paraná River, which affect the navigability of the ships. The Port of Rosario is facing similar difficulties, forcing cereals and oilseeds to be exported through the Port of Bahía Blanca, which is registering record figures as a result.
During the first half of 2020, Trenes Argentinos Cargas recorded a 27% increase in the tons moved on its three lines: Belgrano, San Martín and Urquiza.
