Offshore Oil & Gas Production platforms have begun shutdowns and evacuations in the Gulf of Mexico ahead of Hurricane Sally. Those in the projected path of the storm began removing personnel on Saturday. Companies continue to monitor the storm and make decisions.

Personnel were evacuated from 147 production platforms, 22.86% of the 643 manned platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, as of 11:30 am Monday, according to the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE). Total shut-ins amounted to 395,790 barrels per day (BBL/d), or 21.29% of oil production in the Gulf of Mexico, and 685.03 million cubic feet per day, or 25.28% of gas production, the BSEE said.

With maximum sustained winds of nearly 90 miles per hour as of Monday, Hurricane Sally was expected to approach the southeast Louisiana coast and make landfall Tuesday.
