Tropical Storm Sally has slowed and moved further east, with the potential to make landfall in Biloxi, Mississippi, in the early morning hours of Wednesday. The slowing of the storm increases the potential for extensive flooding in tributaries, and a strong storm surge could reach 5 to 8 feet. The storm was expected to become a hurricane today.
At noon today, the Coast Guard will stop all southbound traffic from Louisiana ports, and is scheduled to stop all traffic at 6 pm today. Mississippi ports also will be officially closed later today.
Industrial Info's Disaster Impact Tracker is showing 84 platforms, representing 450,000 barrels per day (BBL/d) of oil and 185 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of natural gas production, are potentially impacted. Most are expected to be shut in ahead the storm. IIR Energy's gas flow data shows 20 platforms had shut in as of Sunday.
Chevron's 350,000-BBL/d Pascagoula, Mississippi, refinery looks to be in the path of this storm and continues to operate normally as of today. Petrochemical and refinery plant locations in Norco, New Orleans, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, remain operational, with only a few reducing rates.
Industrial Info's research teams are monitoring the status of plant operations that have the potential of being impacted by this quickly growing storm. Visit the Disaster Impact Tracker often for updates on potential and actual impact analysis. For more information on the Disaster Impact Tracker, click here.
