Data centers are becoming an increasingly prominent and important part of life in the U.S., and the area around Santa Clara, California, near the San Francisco Bay, is becoming a hotspot for them. Among these is Prime Data Center's (San Francisco, California) planned facility. The four-story, 161,000-square-foot building will feature 6 megawatts of power and uninterruptible power supplies to provide data services in the region. The project is expected to be completed late next year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
E-commerce giant Amazon.com Incorporated (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington) also is jumping into the data center activity in Santa Clara with the planned construction of a 495,000-square-foot facility to provide Amazon Cloud data services in the region. The project will be built on a brownfield site and entails the demolishment of an existing building and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2022. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In Spokane, Washington, Amazon plans to construct a fulfillment center on an acquired 78-acre site. The 1.33 million-square-foot facility will feature more than 1 million square feet of distribution space to increase regional fulfillment operations. The project is expected to be completed in fourth-quarter 2021. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In a related project, U.S. shipping giant United Parcel Service Incorporated (NYSE:UPS) (UPS) (Sandy Springs, Georgia) will expand its processing hub in Richmond, California, by adding a 350,000-square-foot building addition to the existing 184,000-square-foot facility. Ware Malcomb (Pleasanton, California) is the architect on the project, which is expected to wrap up late next year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Among the largest projects in the region is a light rail project in Honolulu, Hawaii. The project is part of a $5.1 billion, 20-mile, 20-station commuter rail line project. This phase (Segment IV) entails construction of 4.1 miles of rail line in the city center with eight stations. AECOM (NYSE:ACM) (Los Angeles, California) is providing architect and engineering services. The $1.4 billion project is expected to be completed in 2025. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Several projects also are planned for the region's ports. Among these is the Port of Long Beach, which will improve Pier G by demolishing existing wharf structures and constructing an approximately 250-foot concrete wharf extension and a new back land area with utilities and pavement. The construction will enable two berths to accept vessels having capacities of up to 14,000 20-foot-equivalent containers. The project is expected to be completed in mid-2022.
