Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--As the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines occur, restaurants and bars reopen, and economies recover, North America and other parts of the globe are rising to meet a wave of changing demands in the Food & Beverage Industry, presenters at an Industrial Info webinar said Wednesday. There has been a strong uptick in global industry growth, and emerging markets are poised for large expansions, although some of these countries are still facing restrictions due to slower vaccine rollouts.

If you missed the June 23 webinar on the spending outlook for the Food & Beverage Industry, you can still catch it on-demand. In the presentation, Randy Godet, Industrial Info's vice president for the Food & Beverage Industry, and Shaheen Chohan, vice president of Global Analytics, discussed the market drivers and trends affecting the industry in North America and other markets.

In 2020, unprecedented challenges faced the industry as food and beverage consumption shifted from outside the house to people's homes while the COVID-19 pandemic took hold. Despite this sudden shift in demand, spending in the U.S. and Canada remained relatively strong in 2020, showing the industry's resilience. This is set for a slight uptick this year.

Still, the U.S. and Canada face several obstacles. Attracting labor at competitive rates has become increasingly difficult. In some cases, plants are pushing out planned and preventative maintenance projects because of the long lead times in obtaining replacement equipment.

In the webinar, Godet and Chohan discussed these trends and more, including the rise in alternative food and beverage products.

The two also drilled down into specific sectors, including:
  • Agribusiness
  • Dairy
  • Meat, poultry and seafood
  • Baked goods and packaged foods
  • Beverages
