CRUDE OIL
U.S. Discussing Joint Oil Reserves Release with China, Others - Governments from some of the world's biggest economies said on Thursday they were looking into releasing oil from their strategic reserves, following a rare request from the U.S. for a coordinated move to help cool global energy prices. The Biden administration has asked a wide range of countries, including China for the first time, to consider releasing stocks of crude oil, the White House said on Thursday. Other major consumers India, Japan and South Korea also were involved in discussions, several people familiar with the requests told Reuters on Wednesday. (Reuters)
NATURAL GAS
U.S. Utilities Show Rare November Gas Injection - The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported an unusual mid-November build in U.S. natural gas stockpiles for the week ending November 12, when utilities added 26 billion cubic feet of gas into storage. Utilities usually start drawing gas out of inventories at this time of year. (Reuters)
POWER
NERC: Texas Power Grid Still Not Ready for Extreme Winter Weather - The Texas electric grid could suffer a massive shortfall in generating capacity in a winter deep freeze, potentially triggering outages similar to those in February, according to a report on Thursday by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), a nonprofit regulatory authority. In normal winter conditions, the anticipated reserve margin is comfortable at nearly 42% for the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), the grid operator for about 90% of the state. But if severe frigid weather hits, it could disrupt pipeline natural gas supplies and power stations, leaving a capacity deficit as high as 37%, NERC said. (Reuters)
