Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Tajikistan, which imported 170,500 tons of mineral fertilizers in 2021, plans to build its own nitrogen fertilizer plant in its city of Sarband in 2022. Similar plans were mothballed in 2008, but owner Azot OAO (Siberia, Russia) restarted construction last year and the major installation work is nearing completion.
The plant is expected to begin producing ammonia and urea by the end of 2022. Azot OAO's management is drawing up plans for a second unit and is negotiating with potential contractors. Phase II, which is scheduled to launch in 2026, will allow the facility to export nitrogen fertilizers.
