Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Arcadis NV (Amsterdam, Netherlands), a global design and consulting firm that services construction projects across multiple industries, pointed to strong revenue growth in its U.S.-based businesses in the first half of 2024, fueled by demand from the markets for transportation, chemicals and environmental services. Industrial Info is tracking more than $7 billion worth of active and planned projects featuring Arcadis, with four from the rail, automotive and agricultural chemical sectors accounting for more than half of the total value.

Two rail-related projects on opposite coasts account for more than $1.2 billion worth of investment: a 66-mile segment of the California High-Speed Rail Authority's $2 billion Sacramento-to-San Diego high-speed line, which began construction in late 2015 and could wrap up as early as the summer of 2026; and Siemens AG's (Munich, Germany) $220 million passenger rail car manufacturing plant in Lexington, North Carolina, which will produce up to 264 cars per year at full buildout, for intercity and regional lines.
Arcadis is performing construction-management and design-engineering services on the California and North Carolina rail projects, respectively. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Project Database can read detailed reports on the California and North Carolina projects.
In another corner of the transportation sector, BMW Manufacturing (Munich, Germany) began construction on a $1 billion expansion of an auto assembly plant in Greer, South Carolina, in early 2023 with Arcadis among the contracted engineering firms. BMW plans to use its new capacity to produce electric vehicles (EVs). Subscribers can learn more from a detailed project report.
On the Houston Ship Channel, always a top destination for the Chemical Processing Industry, Gulf Coast Ammonia LLC (Texas City) is in the final stages of constructing a $950 million ammonia plant in Texas City, with Arcadis as a consultant. The facility will produce 1.35 million metric tons per year of ammonia from hydrogen and nitrogen gases to supply agricultural fertilizer and specialty chemical markets, both domestically and internationally. Subscribers can learn more from a detailed project report.
Arcadis also has a hand in several environmental remediation and cleanup projects in the mining industry. These include the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection's $32 million cleanup of the closed Anaconda Copper Mine in Yerington, Nevada. The state, which transferred management of the project to BP Solar Holdings LLC, a subsidiary of BP plc (NYSE:BP) (London, England), plans to remove and remediate up to 400 acres of waste rock, 900 acres of contaminated tailings and 300 acres of disposal ponds from the open pit mine, which closed in 1978. Arcadis is serving as the operation maintenance contractor for the project, which could wrap up as early as the end of the year.
Among its longer-term projects, Arcadis is serving as environmental engineer on Chevron Corporation's (NYSE:CVX) (San Ramon, California) estimated $1 billion remediation of its closed molybdenum mine in Questa, New Mexico. As with the Yerington project, companies involved are reclaiming the contaminated land surrounding the mine, which closed in 2014, to meet standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Subscribers can read detailed reports on the Yerington and Questa projects.
