The largest single project under construction in Colorado is e-commerce giant Amazon.com Incorporated's (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington) massive distribution and sorting center near the Colorado Springs Airport and another Amazon facility. The five-story, 4 million-square-foot building will be highly automated and, according to local news media, will be able to store up to 20 million pieces of merchandise for customers. The facility will allow Amazon to ship books, electronics, toys and other smaller items across Colorado and into neighboring states. Construction kicked off in early 2020 and is expected to wrap up soon. Construction kicked off in 2018, and the projects are set to be completed this year and next. Subscribers can click here for the detailed project reports.
According to Forbes, alcohol sales in the U.S. soared at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and leading brewer Molson Coors Brewing Company (Golden, Colorado) is capitalizing on this by expanding its brewery in Golden. A new building is being constructed along with fermentation tanks and a bottling line for hard seltzer. According to Coors, the project will replace some of the brewery's aging equipment and allow the company to reduce water usage by 100 million gallons per year and energy use by 15%. Construction kicked off late last year and is expected to be completed in 2024. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Food & Beverage Project Database can click here for the project report.
Several renewable energy projects are under development in the state. Among the largest of these is Lightsource BP Renewable Energy's (San Francisco, California) 300-megawatt (MW) Bighorn solar plant at the EVRAZ (London, England) Rocky Mountain Steel Mill in Pueblo. The facility will include 750,000 Canadian Solar (NASDAQ:CSIQ) photovoltaic modules on a single-axis tracking system. According to Solar Builder magazine, the facility will be the largest on-site solar project devoted to a single client, EVRAZ.
In a related project, steel manufacturer EVRAZ is cementing its place in Pueblo with the construction of a steel rail mill addition at its plant. The facility will have a production capacity of 630,000 tons per year and will manufacturer 100-meter lengths. Both the solar and steel mill projects kicked off last year. The power facility is expected to be completed by the end of this year, followed by the steel rail mill early next year.
