Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)--State-run Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC) (BSE:530965) (New Delhi, India) is preparing to begin a 30-day planned refinery-wide maintenance and inspection turnaround at the company's 14,500-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) refinery at Digboi in the northeastern state of Assam. The turnaround drive is expected to begin from the first week of March 2014. The overall cost of the turnaround has been pegged at $8 million.

The refinery has a maintenance turnaround cycle of two years. Major work to be carried out during the shutdown include maintenance and repair for the heat exchanger, heater tubes, columns, reactors, compressors; change-over of chemicals and overhead condensers.

The Refinery is also implementing a few value added projects like, Delayed Coker Up-gradation project for installation of Automatic Heading and De-Heading System, LPG Bullet Storage Tank Addition and Effluent Treatment Plant Up-gradation.

Digboi refinery is India's oldest refinery and was commissioned in 1901, with an initial crude refining capacity of 30 BBL/d. The refinery has since then increased its capacity to 14,500 BBL/d. The major secondary processing units include the Crude unit, Delayed Coker, Catalytic Reforming Unit, Hydro Generation unit, Amine Treatment Unit, Sulfur Recovery Unit, Solvent Dewaxing Unit, Sour Water Stripper, Wax Hydrofinishing, Hydrotreater, Light and heavy Naphtha hydrotreater, Isomerization unit and Effluent Treatment plant.

The Digboi refinery produces distillates, heavy ends and high-quality wax from indigenous crude oil produced at the Assam oil fields. The Refinery Presently Produces Motor Spirit and High Speed Diesel of Bharat Stage-II Grade.
