Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Morehouse BioEnergy LLC (Bastrop, Louisiana), a subsidiary of Drax Biomass International Incorporated (Burlington, Massachusetts), has begun limited fuel pellet production at a new mill in Bastrop. Drax Biomass is a subsidiary of Drax Group plc (North Yorkshire, England).
Equipment testing and a small amount of production are under way, and the facility continues to hire employees. The mill is expected to be running at full capacity by early to mid-July.
The $120 million plant was designed by Haskell Corporation (Bellingham, Washington). The plant will have the capacity to produce 450,000 tons per year of fuel pellets from wood chip feedstocks.
Earlier this month, Morehouse sent its first 45-railcar shipment to the Drax biomass port facility at the Port of Baton Rouge, and then to Port of Tyne in England. The pellets will help fuel Drax Power's new biomass power unit, located in Selby, North Yorkshire, England.
