The New England region includes Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Power, Industrial Manufacturing and Pharma & Biotech Industry projects make up nearly 92% of the total investment value.

Industrial Info is tracking first-quarter kickoffs for 17 power projects in the region, with a combined investment value of nearly $1.3 billion. Capital approval was given in August to Competitive Power Ventures Incorporated's (Silver Spring, Maryland) $800 million Towantic Energy Center, located in Oxford, Connecticut. The 805-megawatt (MW), natural gas/oil, combined cycle power plant will include two 275-MW General Electric (NYSE:GE) natural gas-fired turbine generators, with heat recovery steam generators, and a 255-MW steam turbine generator. Burns & Roe Enterprises, part of Power Engineers (Hailey, Idaho), is serving on the project, which is expected to be completed in late 2018. For details on the project, see Industrial Info's project report.

Industrial Manufacturing places second in the region, with a combined project value of $654 million. Among the 15 projects is FedEx Corporation's (NYSE:FDX) (Memphis, Tennessee) $220 million regional distribution center in Middletown, Connecticut. The 500,000 square-foot facility, which is scheduled for completion in mid-2018, will handle up to 45,000 packages per hour. Architectural and engineering firm BL Companies (Meriden, Connecticut) was performing detailed design on the project. For related information, see October 27, 2015, article - FedEx Estimates $4.6 Billion in Capital Spending for 2016. For details on the project, see Industrial Info's project report.

In third place comes the Pharmaceutical and Biotech Industry, with 11 projects valued at $361 million. AnC Bio Vermont LLC, part of AnC Bio, Inc. (Seoul, South Korea), plans to build a vaccine and biomedical supply plant in Newport Vermont. The $110 million project includes renovation of part of an existing building, and construction of a four-story, 75,000-square-foot research tower addition. The facility will perform research and development and production of stem cell therapies, and eventually, artificial organs. Kickoff is now tentatively set for March next year, with completion in early 2017. Joseph Architects LLC (Waterbury, Vermont) and PeakCM LLC (Winooski, Vermont) are working on the project. For details on the project, see Industrial Info's project report.
