Solar energy dominates Nevada's power project activity, which accounts for $1.65 billion of the state's projects under construction. Among the largest of these is NV Energy Incorporated's (Las Vegas, Nevada) Dry Lake photovoltaic energy center near Las Vegas. Construction kicked off earlier this year and involves installing 375,000 thin-film solar panels to provide a nameplate generating capacity of 100 megawatts (MW). In addition, a 100-MW battery energy storage system will accompany the plant. The project is expected to be completed in early 2024. With all of the renewable energy coming online in the state, it's important to keep Nevada's power transmission and distribution infrastructure in good order. Southern California Edison Company (Rosemead, California) is doing just that with the rebuild of the El Dorado-Mohave transmission line, which entails rebuilding about 80 miles of 500-kilovolt line. To accommodate the increased power flow, the Mojave substation in Laughlin also is being upgraded. The projects kicked off in late 2020 and are expected to be completed in early summer of next year. In 2020, Coeur Mining Incorporated (NYSE:CDE) (Chicago, Illinois) began projects to extend the life and increase output of its Rochester silver and gold mine near Lovelock, Nevada. The project involves expanding the pit mine boundaries and constructing a new leach pad to expand process capacity from 14 million tons per year to 28 million tons per year, increasing production capacity to 8 million ounces per year of silver and 76,000 ounces per year of gold. The project also will extend the mine's life by about 13 years. The Rochester mine produced 3.2 million ounces of silver and 27,051 ounces of gold in 2021. The project is expected to be completed in 2023. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Metals & Minerals Project Database can click here for the full report.
Rounding out the top three industries by overall value comes the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, which includes a broad array of project types, including Novva Data Centers' (West Jordan, Utah) grassroot data center in North Las Vegas. Construction on the 275,000-square-foot facility kicked off a little more than a year ago. Martin-Harris Construction (Las Vegas) is providing general contracting services on the project, which is expected to be completed in late 2023, when the facility will provide colocation data services for the region. Another manufacturing project seems uniquely tailored for Nevada. Aristocrat Leisure Limited (Sydney, Australia) is underway with construction of a grassroot slot machines manufacturing plant in Henderson. Among Aristocrat's popular licensed slot machine titles are "Dune," "Farmville," and "The Walking Dead." The project is Aristocrat's second major expansion in the U.S. in two years; earlier this year, the company completed a manufacturing facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma, that will serve the nationwide tribal gaming market. The Nevada project is expected to be completed by the end of next year. Subscribers can click here for the full report.
