Project Starts
Among the projects planned to kick off in the quarter is Lucid Motors USA Incorporated's (Menlo Park, California) Phase I construction of an electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Casa Grande, Arizona. The project is the first phase of a planned $700 million, 1.5 million-square-foot production facility. Phase I construction will entail a 550,000-square-foot manufacturing facility with an initial production capacity of 20,000 vehicles per year. Construction is expected to wrap up in the second half of 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
As with other regions, data centers feature prominently in the region's planned project starts and completions. Among the largest of these is Edgecore Internet Real Estate's (Denver, Colorado) planned colocation data center campus in McCarren, Nevada, near Reno. The facility will be built on a 56-acre site and will include six buildings of approximately 180,000 square feet each, as well as 225 megawatts of critical load power. The project has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $480 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report. Switch SUPERNAP LLC also plans to begin construction of a data center in McCarren during the quarter. The 935,000-square-foot facility should be completed by the end of the year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In Utah, SilencerCo LLC (West Valley City, Utah) plans to kick off an expansion of its rifle and pistol manufacturing plant. The existing facility will be expanded by constructing a 52,000-square-foot building along with production and supporting equipment. Architectural Nexus Incorporated (Salt Lake City, Utah) is the architect, and Wright Engineers (Sandy, Utah) and Spectrum Engineers (Salt Lake City) are the engineers. The project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Project Completions
Construction on several data centers also is wrapping up in the region this quarter. Among these is Facebook Incorporated's (NASDAQ:FB) (Menlo Park) grassroot data center in Los Lunas, New Mexico. Phase I kicked off in late 2016 and entails construction of a 510,000-square-foot building. Construction on Phase II, which will also be completed this quarter, began in 2017 and includes a 460,000-square-foot building to support increased demand for Facebook services. The projects have a combined TIV of $500 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on Phase I and Phase II.
As usual, the warehouse and distribution center sector is a strong player in the region's project activity, and in Colorado, Amazon.com Incorporated (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington) is finishing up construction of a fulfillment center in Thorton. The three-story facility has 2.4 million square feet of space, and supporting systems and equipment to pick, pack and ship smaller items. Construction began in third-quarter 2017, with RC Anderson LLC as the general contractor. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In Chandler, Arizona, Northrup Grumman Corporation (Falls Church, Virginia) is putting the finishing touches on a facility that will manufacture 300-foot rockets. The project has taken about a year to complete. Willmeng Construction Company (Phoenix, Arizona) is the general contractor on the project, which has an estimated TIV of $200 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
