U.S. Allows Sempra to Re-Export Gas from Mexico - The U.S. Energy Department on Tuesday approved permits for Sempra Energy (NYSE:SRE) (San Diego, California) to send U.S. natural gas to Mexico for re-export from liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals. The permits allow Sempra to ship natural gas via pipeline to western Mexico in coming years, where it will be converted to LNG at the company's terminals and sent to consumers in Asia and other markets. The department allows Sempra to export an LNG equivalent of 475 billion cubic feet (Bcf) per year of gas from the proposed Costa Azul facility, the first train of which is planned to be completed in 2024, and 200 Bcf a year from the Vista Pacifico plant, construction of which has not begun.
