Click on the image at right for a breakdown by state of planned fourth-quarter Industrial Manufacturing project starts in the Southeast.
Among the largest projects planned to kick off in the upcoming quarter is South Korean company SK Innovation Company Limited's (Seoul) grassroot automotive lithium-ion battery manufacturing plant in Commerce, Georgia. The facility is being built next to another battery plant, and the project entails constructing a 1.5 million-square-foot facility to produce batteries to supply Ford Motor Company's (NYSE:F) (Dearborn, Michigan) electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Kentucky. Construction is expected to be completed in the first half of 2023. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Other planned automotive projects in the region include Navistar International Corporation's (Lisle, Illinois) expansion of a truck gearbox assembly plant in Huntsville, Alabama. A 110,000-square-foot building expansion will be constructed along with a gearbox assembly line to build International A26 engines and next generation big-bore diesel engines. Morrell Engineering (Athens, Alabama) is the engineer on the project, which is expected to wrap up in the summer of 2023. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In Morristown, Tennessee, Van Hool NV (Antwerp, Belgium) is planning a grassroot bus assembly plant. The 500,000-square-foot facility will include production lines to manufacture buses for the U.S. market, with an eventual production capacity of 4,000 units per year. The project is expected to take a little more than year to complete. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In Jacksonville, Florida, the Jacksonville Port Authority plans to commence an expansion of the Blount Island Terminal by increasing the facility's space to 80 acres and performing upgrades to allow two post-Panamax vessels to use the terminal simultaneously. In addition, three new 100-guage container cranes will be installed. Manson Construction (Seattle, Washington) is the general contractor. The project is expected to be completed by the end of next year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Data centers are becoming big business in the U.S., and in Birmingham, Alabama, DC Blox (Atlanta, Georgia) plans to begin a Phase II expansion of its facility, which is located on the site of a former steel and iron works facility. This project entails constructing a 30,000-square-foot building addition on what could eventually be a 60-megawatt, 200,000-square-foot data center campus. The project is expected to wrap up next summer. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Business is booming for FedEx Corporation (NYSE:FDX) (Memphis, Tennessee), which has seen its share price rise dramatically since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the U.S. The delivery company will be modernizing its World Hub in Memphis and constructing a new bulk truck loading building in the fourth quarter. Existing structures will be demolished, and a 50- to 60-foot tall, 65,000-square-foot building will be constructed, featuring an automated sort system, two levels of sort conveyors and office space. The $85 million project is expected to be completed by the end of next year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
