The new plant is located in Alto Taquari, Mato Grosso--the company's first plant in the state. The opening ceremony was held on November 18. The plant will produce 90 million gallons per year of fuel ethanol and have a generating capacity of 72 megawatts. The plant is expected to crush 3.8 million tons of sugarcane per eight-month harvest period.
The investment required to develop this greenfield project, including agricultural fields and industrial areas, was about $500 million,
ETH Bioenergia is the biofuels subsidiary of engineering and construction company Odebrecht SA (Salvador, Brazil), which has developed six other sugarcane-processing projects in three states: Sao Paulo, Goias and Mato Grosso do Sul. In 2010, the company acquired the assets of Brenco-Companhia Brasileira de Energia Renovavel (Sao Paulo), becoming one of the largest sugarcane processing companies in Brazil.
