Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--China's Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) has cleared the way for the site for units 1 and 2 of China National Nuclear Corporation's (CNNC) (Beijing) Xudabao Nuclear Power Plant.
The MEP concluded that the proposed site at Binhai County, Xingcheng of Huludao City, is feasible and satisfies the requirements of related laws and nuclear safety regulations, according to the examination comments that were published on April 9.
Plans for the Xudabao Nuclear Power Plant call for six units, including two AP1000 pressurized water reactors with associated facilities, to be built in Phase I with a total investment of about $6.5 billion.
Site preparation for the project kicked off in 2011. Due to the nation's policy adjustment, the project was put on hold, and it was changed to third-generation nuclear technology instead of the originally proposed second-generation technology.
The project has received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the China Earthquake Administration, the Ministry of Water Resources, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Land Resources, the National Marine Administration, the Civil Aviation Administration of China, and the local government.
According to the schedule published in the environmental impact assessment report on Phase I of the Liaoning Power Plant, the first unit will receive its first concrete placement in June, and both units will begin operations in 2019.
Liaoning's power load accounts for about 51% of the total load in the northeast region, and the installed capacity will account for about 36%. Xingcheng is located at the load center of Liaoning, and the project will help meet the increasing power demand in central Liaoning, especially the burden of increasing loads in Anshan, Liaoyang and Yingkou.
As the second nuclear power project in the Liaoning province--and the second nuclear power project in all of northeastern China--the project will be connected to the Northeast Power Grid via three circuits of 500-kilovolt transmission lines.
