Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Cordoba, Argentina)--Brazil's state-owned oil company, Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. (NYSE:PBR) (Petrobras) (Rio de Janeiro), began operations this month at the crude oil and natural gas floating, storage, production and offloading vessel (FPSO) P-62, in the Roncador Field, which is in the Santos Basin, off the Brazilian coast.
Conversion work on the very large crude carrier (VLCC) vessel hull was performed at Jurong Shipyard in Singapore. Construction and integration of production modules were completed in December 2013 at the Atlantico Sul shipyard in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil, with delivery by the company Quip S.A. (Rio de Janeiro).
The FPSO has a production capacity of 180,000 barrels per day (BBL/d) of crude oil, 6 million standard cubic meters per day of natural gas, and a storage capacity of 1.6 million barrels of crude. The vessel is installed 125 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, at a depth of 1,600 meters. It is connected to 14 production wells and eight water injection wells. The FPSO has a total investment value of about $1.2 billion.
With the installation of the P-62 unit, the Roncador Field will become Brazil's largest offshore production field, beating the Marlim Sul field. The Roncador Field currently produces 250,000 BBL/d, but it has a potential capacity of 700,000 BBL/d.
Petrobras has 136 operational offshore production units, including fixed platforms, semi-submersibles and FPSOs, with an average production of 2 million BBL/d. The company plans to double its production capacity through 2020. It plans to build 33 more production platforms, with most of them in the recently discovered ultra-deep fields under the subsalt layer in the Santos Basin.
