Among the top projects planned to kick off in the region during the quarter is SK Innovation Company Limited's (Seoul, South Korea) planned battery manufacturing plant in Commerce, Georgia. The facility will manufacture lithium ion batteries for electric vehicles (EV). The building is planned to be approximately 1 million square feet and will manufacture up to 9.8 gigawatt-hours per year of batteries. The project is the first phase of a two-phase project. Phase I should be completed in the first half of 2021. Phase II would provide an additional 1 million-square-foot manufacturing facility and could be completed in early 2022. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on Phase I and Phase II. For more on SK Innovation's global battery-manufacturing buildout, see March 13, 2019, article - SK Innovation To Build Second EV Battery Plant in Hungary.

The Southeast region is becoming one of the largest automotive manufacturing areas outside of the Great Lakes region. In Alabama, Hyundai Motor Group (Seoul) is planning to retool its Engine Plant 2 in Montgomery, Alabama. The project would increase the facility's manufacturing capacity to meet increased demand in the U.S. market. The project would be completed by the end of the year and has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $400 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

With the rise of e-commerce, distribution center and warehousing projects are springing up around the U.S., and the Southeast market region is no different. Among the distribution center projects planned to kick off in the second quarter is Amazon.com Incorporated's (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington) grassroot facility in Stone Mountain, Georgia. The four-story facility will have a total area of approximately 2.6 million square feet and will contain 65 loading docks. Eberly & Associates Incorporated (Atlanta, Georgia) is the engineer. The project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Data centers also are big business, and among the biggest projects set to kick off in the region next quarter is Switch SUPERNAP LLC's (Las Vegas, Nevada) Phase II construction of its data center in Lithia Springs, Georgia. The project entails constructing a 204,250-square-foot data hall with supporting equipment to expand colocation services. Construction on the $702 million project is expected to begin soon, with completion set for the end of 2019. Martin-Harris Construction (Las Vegas) is the general contractor. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In Titusville, Florida, Lockheed Martin Space Systems (Sunnyvale, California) is planning to expand its satellite production plant by constructing a building addition to add aerospace components and subsystems production. Construction on the $80 million project is expected to be completed in early 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

These are a few of the more than 65 Industrial Manufacturing planned to kick off in the region in the second quarter. For more information on these and other projects, subscribe to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Database Platform.
