Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--As the largest palm oil importer, India annually imports about US$10 billion worth of edible oil to fulfil nearly 70% of its total requirement. However, India is now seeking self-sufficiency through domestic production. Mission Palm Oil, a program launched by the Indian government in August 2021, aims to strengthen the nation's oil palm cultivation and crude palm oil production.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the virtual inauguration of India's first integrated oil palm processing facility on March 9. Located in Roing of Dibang Valley in Arunachal Pradesh, the plant from 3F Oil Palm (Hyderabad, India) is designed to use palm waste for power generation. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Food & Beverage Plant database can learn from a detailed plant profile.

With a capacity of 10 metric tons per hour, 3F Oil Palm's (Hyderabad, India) zero-discharge effluent oil-palm factory aims to ensure environmentally responsible waste management. As reported by the Economic Times, 3F Oil Palm already has invested Rs 100 crores (US$12 million) in the region and plans further investments of Rs 1100 crores (US$132 million) in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh by 2030, generating jobs for 1,700 people.

With an investment of more than US$10 billion, Patanjali Foods Limited (Indore, India) is planning to build a new palm oil mill in Khammam (Telangana, India). As the project with the highest spending, it is scheduled to begin construction in May 2025 and to be completed in June 2026. Subscribers can learn from a detailed project report and plant profile.

Industrial Info is tracking seven projects, totaling more than US$328 million of investment, for palm oil mills in India. Six projects are in their early planning phases, and another is under construction. These projects are expected to reach completion between December 2025 and March 2027.
