AIM PowerGen Corporation (Toronto, Ontario), with the aid of MacViro Consultants Incorporated (Markham, Ontario), selected a joint venture of AMEC Energy & Mining (Oakville Ontario), a division AMEC PLC (London, England), and Black & McDonald Limited (Toronto, Ontario) to construct the 99-megawatt (MW) Erie Shores Windfarm (Port Burwell, Ontario). This will be the first phase of a multi-phase windfarm development for southern Ontario.

Erie Shores Windfarm was originally proposed as a 150 MW windfarm, but only 99MW (66%) of it was accepted by the Ontario government in a request for proposals (RFP) for green power (renewable energy). AMEC Energy & Mining with Black & McDonald has started site preparation and will be constructing access roads, a 34.5 kV collection system connected to a new 114 kV substation with transmission lines, as well as installing the 66 General Electric (GE) 1.5 MW wind turbine/generator sets. AIM PowerGen is anticipating completion and commercial operation of the windfarm by April 2006 and expects to hire up to twelve permanent employees.
