Written by Martin Lynch, European News Editor for Industrial Info (Galway, Ireland)--Northern Ireland's contract pharmaceutical development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) Almac Group (Craigavon) has announced plans to create more than 1,000 new jobs in Northern Ireland as part of a global plan to recruit an additional 1,800 staff.
The Northern Irish company has grown steadily in recent years and has spent the last 18 months providing support to more than 140 separate research projects for COVID-19 vaccines and treatments through a range of service areas. The company worked closely with BioNTech SE (NASDAQ:BNTX) (Germany) on the early development of the COMINARTY COVID-19 vaccine in the areas of distribution, labelling and temperature management.
Alan Armstrong, Almac Group chief executive officer, commented: "As demand for our services steadily increases, our aim is to continue to grow our global team by actively recruiting 1,800 new individuals across a wide variety of diverse and exciting areas. These roles come with a range of benefits, including flexible working, competitive salary and an annual bonus. Crucially, this offers individuals the chance to help us continue our provision of solutions whilst making a real and positive contribution to health right across the world."
The company is planning significant investment in expansion projects over the next three years, which will see its headcount rise to 8,000 across its 19 facilities globally. Earlier this year, the Group reported turnover of £677.3 million for its financial year 2019/20 -- an increase of £43 million (6%) from the previous year.
