Alterra Power, Starwood Energy 202-MW Texas Windfarm Begins Commercial Operations

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Alterra Power (Vancouver, British Columbia) and Starwood Energy Group Global LLC (Greenwich, Connecticut) announced this week their jointly-owned Shannon windfarm in Clay County, Texas has begun commercial operations.
The $404.6 million wind facility comprises 119 GE 1.7-100 wind turbines, with 103-meter diameters. Shannon windfarm brings 202.3 megawatts of wind generated power to the Texas grid.
Alterra Power and Starwood each have a 50% interest in the windfarm. It is Alterra's first windfarm in the U.S.
Mortenson Construction (Minneapolis, Minnesota) provided engineering, procurement, and construction services. Construction kicked off in January 2015.
In addition to providing the turbines, GE Renewable Energy (Schenectady, New York) will provide operations and maintenance under a long-term service agreement.
Alterra has a total renewable generating capacity of 757 MW, with 346 MW coming from the company's Shannon windfarm and Dokie windfarm in British Columbia.
Starwood Energy Group owns about 822 MW of renewable energy assets, including 578 MW in from wind powered facilities. Starwood also has 98.5% equity interest in Nautilus Solar Energy, which it acquired in 2008.
