Amazonas Energia Completes Major Maintenance at 116-Megawatt Block III of Mauá Power Station

Español
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Cordoba, Argentina)--Eletrobras Amazonas Energia (Manaus, Brazil), a semi-public power utility company that belongs to Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras S.A. (NYSE:EBR) (Eletrobras) (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), has recently concluded a major inspection of Unit 8 at its Mauá Power Plant's Block III.

This block is composed of two GE MS7001 natural gas-fired, heavy-frame combustion turbines with operating capacities of 50 megawatts (MW) each. Unit 8 has just gone through a major inspection that was performed by Dresser-Rand do Brasil (Campinas, Brazil). It should have been back in operation on June 20, but a malfunctioning of the turbine's gas compressor has delayed its restart. Plant officials told Industrial Info that they expect this unit to go back on the grid by late July, once the maintenance contractor either refurbishes the faulty equipment or provides a new piece.

Amazonas Energia also plans to have a combustion inspection done at Unit 7. The actual date for this inspection depends on unit runtime, but it probably will happen around first quarter next year, February or March at most. Biddings to select the maintenance contractor should start during this year's last quarter.

Amazonas is the largest Brazilian state, though it only represents 1.91% of the country's total installed capacity, placed at approximately 118.34 gigawatts (GW). Amazonas depends heavily on fossil-fuel power generation. The state has an installed capacity of 2,258 MW, which is divided between 141 thermoelectric and two hydroelectric power plants that account for 87.84% and 12.16% of total power generation, respectively.
