American Renewables Developing Three Biomass-to-Energy Projects

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--American Renewables LLC (Boston, Massachusetts) is looking at Texas and Florida to build three 100-megawatt (MW) biomass-to-energy plants. American Renewables is a joint venture formed in 2008 by Tyr Energy Incorporated (Overland Park, Kansas) (49%), a subsidiary of Itochu Corporation (OTC:ITOCY) (Tokyo, Japan); BayCorp Holdings (Portsmouth, New Hampshire) (25.5%); and Energy Management Incorporated (Boston, Massachusetts) (25.5%).

The American Renewables projects will use bubbling fluidized bed boilers with baghouses to control the emission of particulate matter, and selective noncatalytic reduction units to control nitrogen oxide emissions. The boilers will provide steam to drive the turbine/generators. The most advanced project is the 100-MW Sacul project in Sacul, Nacogdoches County, Texas, that is expected to complete the selection of an engineering and construction vendor in February or March. This project will possibly be followed by two similar projects in north-central Florida. The projects are being considered near Gainesville, Alachua County, and Jennings, Hamilton County, near the Georgia state line.
