As per the latest update, the company continues construction of its 1.5 million-ton-per-year cement plant and a 25-megawatt captive thermal power plant at its site in Umalpur village, in the Jayanthia Hills district of Shillong in Meghalaya. The plant construction is in full swing, but the company has not hired an engineering, procurement and construction firm. Instead, it is managing and supervising the project itself, as it has experience in the planning and construction sectors. The company is releasing subcontractor bids, as well as bids for the procurement of machinery and other equipment.

As per the update, the plant will focus on dry manufacturing cement. Amrit Cements plans to use the latest technology to ensure the production of the best Portland cement. Fly ash from the coal-fired captive power plant will be used to produce the cement, and the company will follow all environmental guidelines.

Amrit Cements expects completion of the construction and testing by December 2011, and to begin production at the plant in January 2012.
