Another Inkblot on the Map Appears as Toyo's Texas Site Opens

Researched by Industrial Information Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Toyo Ink International Corporation (Tokyo, Japan) has put the finishing touches on the construction of a new grassroot specialty polymers plant in Bryan, Texas. The estimated $20 million project includes a warehouse, two production areas and an administrative office. The 55,000-square-foot plant will produce specialty polymers, including adhesives and colorant products. Industrial Info has been tracking this project as part of our North American Project Database for nearly two years. The plant was built under the direction of Gray Construction Company (Lexington, Kentucky), who served as the design-build firm for the project.

In addition to this plant, two other adhesives and sealants plants began operations this year in the United States. The Sika Corporation (Lyndhurst, New Jersey) and Three Bond (West Chester, Ohio) both began commercial operation of new plants, both of which are located in the Great Lakes region.

Toyo's new Bryan plant is one of only three grassroot plants in the Chemical Processing Industry to begin operations this year. During the last month of the year there are two additional plants that have the potential to begin commercial operations. These plants belong to Airgas Incorporated (NYSE:ARG) (Radnor, Pennsylvania) and Praxair Incorporated (NYSE:PX) (Danbury, Connecticut), with each of these plants located in the Houston petrochemical area. Looking ahead to the coming year, Industrial Info has already identified another three grassroot plants expected to start up in the Lone Star State during 2009.
