As the Sun Rises, So Does Photovoltaic Power in China

Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--In first-quarter 2016, China's newly added installed capacity of on-grid photovoltaic power reached 7.14 gigawatts (GW), according to the National Energy Administration (NEA) of China.

Newly commissioned ground photovoltaic power station capacity reached 6.17 GW, and the newly commissioned distributed photovoltaic power reached 0.97 GW. As of the end of March, China's accumulative installed capacity of on-grid photovoltaic power surpassed 50 GW, reaching 50.31 GW, a jump of 52% from the same time of last year. Ground photovoltaic power station installed capacity reached 43.29 GW, and the installed capacity of distributed photovoltaic power reached 7.03 GW.

During the first quarter, the output of photovoltaic power reached 11.8 billion kilowatt-hours (TWh), a jump of 48% from the same period last year. However, due to weak demand in the power market and restrictions in grid connections, about 1.9 TWh of output from photovoltaic power sources were abandoned nationwide, mainly in the Gansu, Xinjiang and Ningxia regions. About 840 GWh of electricity generated from photovoltaic power were abandoned in Gansu, accounting for 39% of the total output from photovoltaic power in the region; about 760 GWh were abandoned in Xinjiang, accounting for 52% of the total output in the region; and about 210 GWh were abandoned in Ningxia, accounting for 20% of the total output in the region.

Newly added installed capacity of on-grid photovoltaic power in North China, East China, Central China and South China each surpassed 1 GW. Newly commissioned capacity of photovoltaic power reached 0.94 GW in Yunan, 0.88 GW in Shandong, 0.71 GW in Xinjiang, 0.6 GW in Shaanxi, 0.58 GW in Anhui, 0.53 GW in Zhejiang and 0.52 GW in Jiangxi.

The accumulative installed capacity of photovoltaic power in North China, East China, Central China and South China reached 25.6 GW, surpassing the accumulation of 23.64 GW in northwest China, which indicated that the distribution of photovoltaic power has been shifted from traditional northwest region. Those provinces with accumulative installed capacity of on-grid photovoltaic power surpassing 1 GW in Central and East China include Jiangsu (4.4 GW), Hebei (2.72 GW), Shandong (2.21 GW), Zhejiang (2.17 GW), Anhui (1.79 GW) and Shanxi (1.22 GW).
