Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated Houston, Texas). Independently-owned Associated Grocers of New England (Manchester, New Hampshire) has begun construction on a new food distribution center in Pembroke, New Hampshire.
Official groundbreaking took place in early March 2005. Associated Grocers selected CMC Associates Incorporated (Hanover, Massachusetts) to act as construction manager for this estimated $15 million project. The building foundation is nearing completion, and walls should begin going up within the next 30 days.
The center will be outfitted with new office areas, a dual-zone freezer with -20F and -10F freezing capacity, a new cooler and dry storage area, as well as 32-foot ceilings to accommodate hi-rise storage racking and fifty-three shipping and receiving docks. Automated order picking systems will also be included to help the center run at maximum efficiency.
Construction is targeted to be completed by the first quarter of 2006.
Associated Grocers of New England distributes more than 16,000 grocery products to about 450 retailers in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, and upstate New York. The company also offers retail support services to its customers, including advertising, marketing, bookkeeping, and retail systems. The company's Vista Foods subsidiary operates four supermarkets in New Hampshire. Associated Grocers of New England is owned entirely by a group of some 170 independent grocery retailers.
