Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Perth, Australia)--Epuron Pty Limited (North Sydney, Australia) is developing a 200-megawatt (MW) windfarm project in the Yass area of New South Wales. The Rye Park Windfarm will involve 100 turbines and is expected to produce enough electricity to power 90,000 homes.
Epuron had been developing the project since late 2008. The New South Wales Government gave the company permission to exhibit the project's environmental assessment document to the local community for public comment. The seven-week public comment period will end July 4. Following responses from local residents, Epuron will prepare the final environmental impact statement, which will be submitted to the New South Wales Department Planning Authorities by the end of the year.
The project also will include installation of a 35-kilometer, 330-kilovolt (kV) overhead power line to the existing 330-kV Yass-Bannaby transmission line, which is south of the windfarm site. Subject to the approvals, Epuron will seek a major construction contractor or engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, who probably will be the turbine supplier for the windfarm project.
Construction of the windfarm will begin in 18 to 24 months. According to Epuron, the $300 million project has potential to deliver significant economic benefits to both the local community and New South Wales.
Epuron expects to employ 80 people during construction of the project, and seven or eight people when the windfarm begins operations.
