Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Technology developed by the Australian Commonwealth Scientific Research Organization (CSIRO) will be applied in a clean energy project in China. Pulse Energy (PE) (Brisbane, Queensland) has signed a $260 million agreement with the Chonqing Coal Group to build and jointly own four clean energy power plants at coal mine sites in Chongqing. The four 60 MW power stations will use the CSIRO technology to burn low concentration methane to produce clean energy.
Damien Weis, PE Business Director, said the deal would provide the company with further growth and put them in a great position to capitalize on the enormous clean energy opportunities in China. The Chinese government has introduced legislation that requires power grid operators to purchase electricity generated by approved clean energy facilities, he said.
In 2006, PE signed a $133 million agreement to build eleven biomass power stations in China and secured fuel contracts that would facilitate 30 more power stations with an investment of $350 million through 2011. This deal will create a new industry for the collection and processing of sugar cane waste. It will also cut pollution from burning sugar cane waste in the fields. At that time Weis said that China had committed $180 billion to reaching the target of renewable energy representing 15% of total power generated over the next fifteen years. CSIRO technology is also being used in the biomass power stations.
PE is working on projects in Australia, Cuba, Mexico, the Caribbean, the Pacific region and China.
