Kongsberg plans to begin closing the plant toward the end of October, with final closure expected by the end of the year. The plant manufactures industrial cables, pedal systems and control systems. The closure of the plant will lead to a transfer of production in Hagerstown to other Kongsberg Automotive locations in the United States.

The company moved into the Maryland facility in 2008, but is closing the plant to realize cost savings, improve overall competitiveness and optimize production. The transfer of business from the Hagerstown facility will enable the company to better align its market needs, simplify business and improve profitability. Approximately 64 jobs will be lost.
