Released Thursday, June 20, 2002

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE: NRG) (Minneapolis, Minnesota), through its wholly owned subsidiary, Louisiana Generating LLC, will commission the first two units of the Bayou Cove electrical generating plant next month. The 320-megawatt power plant will enter full service when the remaining two units are commissioned in August. Bayou Cove, located near Jennings, Louisiana, is a natural gas-fired plant consisting of four GE Frame 7EA combustion turbines. The plant will operate during periods of peak demand and will serve the SERC and Entergy area. According to Industrialinfo.com, some 3,775 megawatts of merchant power is slated to come online in 2002 in Louisiana.

The Shaw Group (NYSE:SGR) (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) and affiliate Stone & Webster provided construction and engineering services for the project. The Shaw Group is the world's only vertically integrated provider of complete piping systems and comprehensive engineering, procurement, and construction services to the power generation industry. While the majority of Shaw's backlog is attributable to the power generation industry, the company also does work in the process industries, including petrochemical, chemical, and refining, and the environmental and infrastructure sectors.

Founded in 1989, NRG develops, operates, owns, manages, and acquires a variety of energy-related operations worldwide. Operations include competitive energy production and cogeneration facilities, power marketing, district heating and cooling production, thermal energy production, and resource recovery facilities. NRG has a global portfolio of projects in North America, Europe, Australia, Asia, and Latin America.
