BlueGrass Biodiesel in Falmouth, Kentucky Set To Start Operations Next Week

BlueGrass Biodiesel invested about $3.8 million in startup costs and to retrofit an existing 43,000-square-foot facility in the Commonwealth Commerce Center in 2007. But the project was halted about a year after the company ran out of funds, until refinancing was obtained.

The plant will produce 14 millions gallons of B-90, B-99 and B-100 biodiesel blends annually. The biodiesel will be converted from vegetable oils and animal fat feedstocks. The facility will be the largest biodiesel producer in northern Kentucky and the second-largest in the state, employing about 15 people.

The factory is in Falmouth, in Pendleton County, on David Pribble Drive near Highway 27, approximately 37 miles south of Cincinnati, Ohio. Kentucky does not have a requirement for all diesel sold in the state to contain biodiesel.
