Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Brass LNG Limited (Lagos, Nigeria) has awarded the front end engineering and design (FEED) contract for its proposed Brass LNG project to San Francisco-based Bechtel Group Incorporated. The proposed Brass LNG project will be located in Brass, Nigeria near an existing petroleum export terminal operated by Nigeria's Agip Oil Company. The scope of the Brass project will incorporate two five-million-ton-per-year LNG production trains, marine ship loading facilities, and natural gas gathering and delivery field work.
Bechtel is now nearing the halfway point on the FEED portion of the project. Successful completion of the FEED contract will pave the way for the engineering, procurement, and construction (E+P+C) process to begin and Brass LNG hopes to begin the selection process for E+P+C contractors in early 2006. Construction on the Brass LNG project is scheduled to commence in late summer of 2006, with a completion and in-service date targeted for some time in 2008.
Brass LNG Limited is a joint venture of the state owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (Lagos, Nigeria) (49%), ChevronTexaco (NYSE:CVX )(San Ramon, California) (17%), ConocoPhillips (NYSE:CoP ) (Houston, Texas) (17%), and Italy's ENI (Rome, Italy) (17%). ConocoPhillips is currently vying to purchase the entire output of the facility to supply LNG to some of its proposed North American LNG receiving terminals in the Gulf of Mexico.
