According to a report from the California Life Sciences Association (CLSA), this sector employed roughly 324,000 people and generated $6.4 billion in direct state and local taxes in 2020, with 1,350 new medicines in clinical trials, including COVID-19 therapies and vaccines.
California is the second largest U.S. state for active biotechnology projects after Massachusetts.
